I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach little ones! In my classroom my students learned problem solving and critical decision making through computer science on Code.org. We participated in The Hour of Code and they got hooked on the java-script games! We also participated in Digital Learning Day. We traveled the world using Google Earth, video-conferenced with a elementary students in NY who read to our class and taught us about Sharks and created word clouds with 100 things we are grateful for. We did all of this in first grade, in Spanish and English!
We also engaged in Depth & Complexity lessons, which are part of the Gifted & Talented curriculum. We discussed multiple perspectives on bilingual education, the rain forest destruction and life lessons from several fictional stories, like Pete the Cat. We even had the opportunity to discuss this with Boerne Mayor Mike Schultz when he read to our class.
While I enjoyed the classroom, my passion is teaching reading. This year I chose to move into a new role, working with small groups to provide Spanish reading and Dyslexia interventions at two campuses in Boerne. It's an amazing experience to help children read!
